How to Pick Your Running Shoes?

Running has always been the most popular and accessible sport for the general public. Running outdoors and breathing the fresh air, can not only release your pressure from work and study, relax your body and spirit, but it also can improve your basal metabolism in the body, and help you to maintain a healthy body.

Before you run, it is very necessary to choose a pair of appropriate running shoes. Most running shoes have three main structures: outsole, insole, and upper.

The main function of the outsole is wearing resistance and non-slip, shoes with a durable outsole material like carbon rubber will help minimize the wear. Indoors or out, the non-skid outsole provides stability.

Insole refers to the part between the outsole and the shoe pad, its main function is to cushion the shock from the ground, usually with good elasticity and low weight. The EVA insole and the breathable PU footbed offer soft cushion and support to your feet. Not much pain even after one day’s heavy hiking.

The last part is the upper, which includes the shoe pad and the vamp. The shoe pad can adjust the support for the arch of the foot, and also absorbs and dissipates perspiration. In addition to being stylish and beautiful, the vamp also provides breathability, comfort, and protection for the instep and ankle.

So how to choose the right running shoes for yourselves?

First, size.

It is important to choose the right size. When you put on the shoe, there needs to be enough room for the toe to be cushioned. Therefore, the length of the running shoe is usually 0.2-0.4 inches longer than the length of the foot.

Second, vamp height.

The tightness of the upper also affects the comfort of the shoe. The upper should fit the instep well enough to prevent your feet from sliding inside the shoe and causing injury, but it should not be too tight for your comfort.

Third, shoe heel to foot heel fit.

The heel should be fully attached to the heel of the shoe to avoid heel friction injuries caused by foot sliding in the shoe and toe impact injuries. Likewise, for your comfort, it should not be too tight.

Forth, Clarify your exercise purpose.

Running shoes are divided into cushioning and stability. All running shoes have cushioning part, some focus on cushioning, others on stability.
If you are a beginner or a short-distance runner, stable running shoes are more suitable for you. In addition to cushioning, stable running shoes usually have a high-density material structure on the inside of the arch of the sole, which provides some support for the arch and can prevent mild valgus of the foot.

Runners who practice long-distance running or racing are more suitable for cushioning running shoes. High-arch runners with a varus running posture usually have a poor ability to absorb the reaction force from the ground. This kind of running shoes usually has a softer insole, which can assist the foot to be evenly stressed during exercise and help the foot reduce shock. The shoes are usually lighter, and the stability will be a little weak.
